Football Signs 20 Student-Athletes at the Beginning of Early Signing Period


The University of Maryland’s football program, under Head Coach Michael Locksley, is celebrating the signing of 20 student-athletes to Big Ten athletics scholarships during the early signing period. This 2024 class is highly ranked nationally, with seven four-star signees including Messiah Delhomme, Jaylen Gilchrist, Iverson Howard, Bryce Jenkins, CJ Smith, Zymear Smith, and Malik Washington. Washington, ranked as the No. 50 overall prospect in the country, is listed as the No. 5 quarterback nationally and the second best player in Maryland. These student-athletes come from six different states, with the majority hailing from Maryland. Maryland’s recruiting success extends to states such as Florida, Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Texas. The team has covered various positions by signing 10 players on offense, nine on defense, and an “Athlete”. Eleven of the signees are set to enroll early, indicating their commitment to the program.
