Maryland Athletics Welcomes Joe LaBue as New Deputy Athletic Director/Chief Revenue Officer

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Joe LaBue, a distinguished alumnus of the University of Maryland and seasoned sports business executive, has been appointed as the new Deputy Athletic Director and Chief Revenue Officer for Maryland Athletics, as announced by Jim Smith, the Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics. LaBue is set to commence his role on August 1, tasked with enhancing and diversifying the revenue streams crucial for the athletic department.

Bringing over 25 years of experience in revenue generation, business operations, and sports management, LaBue most recently held the position of President at Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer. During his tenure, he significantly boosted attendance and revenue, achieving remarkable milestones such as a record-setting attendance of 74,479 fans at the club’s inaugural game, securing the most valuable kit partnership in league history, and maintaining an impressive match-day Net Promoter Score.

Prior to his success in Charlotte, LaBue was actively involved in the Washington D.C. sports scene, serving in various executive roles with the Washington Commanders and Monumental Sports & Entertainment. His journey began in 1997 when he was a freshman at Maryland, where he developed a deep passion for Terps athletics.

“We are thrilled to welcome Joe back home to Maryland,” Smith remarked. “His track record of success in revenue generation and community engagement aligns perfectly with our goals.”

LaBue expressed his excitement about returning to his alma mater, stating, “Energizing the fan base with new initiatives is a challenge I’m eager to take on. I’m dedicated to enhancing Maryland’s success both locally and nationally.”

With LaBue’s extensive experience and commitment, Maryland Athletics is poised for an exciting new chapter.
