Dukes Fall in Extra Innings to Maryland, 6-4

HARRISONBURG, Va. – In a thrilling contest at Veterans Memorial Park, James Madison University’s baseball team fell to Maryland 6-4 after 10 innings on Wednesday night. The Dukes’ record now stands at 15-34, while the Terrapins improved to 23-27.

Junior Wyatt Peifer sparked hope for the Dukes by tying the game in the eighth inning with a solo home run, marking his second consecutive game with a homer. Senior Ryan Dooley led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a run scored. On the mound, Todd Mozoki pitched two strong innings, allowing just one hit.

Maryland took an early lead with a bases-loaded walk in the third inning, followed by a run from a double play. However, JMU fought back; Eli Steadman’s two-run triple in the sixth put the Dukes ahead 3-2. A couple of fielder’s choices in the seventh allowed Maryland to regain the lead.

In the tense 10th inning, a double followed by a wild pitch brought the game to its final score. JMU’s next challenge will be a home series against Old Dominion from May 9-11.
