The #13 James Madison lacrosse team was defeated by #8 Maryland with a score of 11-5 on Saturday afternoon at Sentara Park. Despite efforts from Maddie Epke and Maggie Clark, JMU couldn’t overcome a scoreless first period. Chloe Bleckley and Maddie Weybrecht had standout performances on defense. Adanya Moyer made eight saves in the cage.
Maryland’s Kori Edmonson led with three goals and one assist. JJ Suriano made 13 saves for the Terps. The Dukes managed to outscore Maryland in the second quarter but couldn’t maintain the momentum in the third and fourth quarters.
The loss ended JMU’s 19-game home win streak. Epke is closing in on the all-time draw controls record for the team, while Bleckley has been consistent in scoring points. JMU will face Vanderbilt next Saturday to kick off AAC play. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
