James Craig, a Colorado dentist previously charged with first-degree murder in his wife’s poisoning death, is now facing new charges related to allegedly attempting to have a detective involved in the case killed. The detective had worked on the investigation into Craig’s wife, Angela Craig’s death. Craig’s lawyer withdrew from the case just before the new charges were filed, citing a professional conflict. It is unclear if Craig has a new attorney to represent him.
According to reports, Craig was in jail twice with an inmate he allegedly solicited to commit the murder. The inmate has not been charged. Authorities believe Craig poisoned his wife’s protein shake with cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, leading to her death. Investigators initially suspected arsenic poisoning, but the cause of death was determined to be cyanide and tetrahydrozoline.
Craig’s online search history and purchases, including ordering potassium cyanide from Amazon, raised suspicion. His business partner, who flagged the purchase as suspicious, later contacted authorities. Despite the evidence, Craig’s defense lawyer previously argued there was no direct evidence linking him to his wife’s death.
The recent developments have led to the postponement of jury selection in Craig’s trial indefinitely. The case remains ongoing as authorities continue to investigate the new solicitation charges against him.
