Senator Warnock Secures $22 Million in Funding for Technology Access in Georgia

Senator Raphael Warnock secures over $22 million for the Device For Every American Act, aimed at improving access to technology in Georgia. The funding, announced on October 25, will address inequities in technological device access across the state by expanding digital literacy programs and communal access to technology. Additionally, the funding will make internet costs more affordable for many households.

In a statement, Senator Warnock emphasized the importance of closing the digital divide in order for all communities to thrive in the digital age. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law includes provisions for this federal funding, which will help eliminate equity issues related to technology access. Senator Jon Ossoff also supports the bill, highlighting the importance of ensuring high-speed internet access for all Georgia residents, including families, businesses, and farms.

The Device For Every American Act is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and aims to address the lack of consistent access to computers in 4.4 million households across the country. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) will distribute the grant to support state digital equity plans.

This initiative will directly impact Black families who have historically faced barriers to technology access. By expanding digital and broadband infrastructure in rural areas and beyond, Senator Warnock’s ongoing commitment seeks to bridge the digital divide and ensure that all residents have the opportunity to connect and thrive in a digital economy.
