Additionally, leading economists have urged the chancellor, Rachel Reeves, to loosen fiscal rules to allow more public investment. They argue that Labour will not be able to bring in the promised “decade of national renewal” if current spending plans imply cuts to investment. The signatories stressed the need for increased public investment to rebuild public services and the infrastructure necessary for meeting climate targets.
On another note, Liberal Democrat deputy leader Daisy Cooper emphasized the importance of health and care services in society, calling on the Labour government to prioritize these issues in the upcoming budget.
