Elon Musk has donated nearly $75 million to America PAC, the super PAC he created to support former President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign. This makes him one of the top Republican donors this year. The filing with the Federal Election Commission revealed that Musk gave $14.95 million in July, $30 million in August, and another $30 million in September to the super PAC. He was the sole donor during that period, although associates of Musk had made smaller donations in June. America PAC is focused on voter turnout efforts in swing states like Pennsylvania, where Musk appeared onstage with Trump. The super PAC had just under $4 million in cash on hand as of September 30, after spending heavily in the third quarter.
Musk’s contributions to pro-Trump efforts had been subject to speculation before the filing. In July, Trump claimed Musk was giving him $45 million a month, which Musk later disputed. Musk has also given smaller amounts to other Republican committees this year. Few people have contributed as much money as Musk has to Republican or pro-Trump causes. In comparison, Republican megadonor Miriam Adelson gave $95 million in the third quarter to a super PAC supporting Trump. The extent of Musk’s involvement in supporting Trump has been a topic of interest, given his status as the world’s wealthiest person.
