Severe Heat Wave in Maryland Predicted to Last Until Wednesday

Extreme Heat Wave Grips Baltimore: Health Alerts in Effect

BALTIMORE—A heat wave is pushing temperatures to dangerous levels across Maryland, with BWI-Marshall Airport nearing a record high of 98°F and the Inner Harbor peaking at 104°F on Monday. Conditions are expected to remain perilous through Wednesday. Baltimore has declared a Code Red extreme heat alert, lasting until June 26, while Howard County’s alert extends through June 24.

As temperatures soar, residents are urged to take precautions; even healthy individuals are at risk. The WJZ First Alert Weather team issued Alert Days due to forecasted highs approaching the lower 100s. The typical late June high is in the upper 80s. Overnights will remain abnormally warm, with lows challenging records set as far back as 1875.

To cope, residents are encouraged to wear light clothing, stay hydrated, and take breaks if outdoors. Cooling centers are available for those in need. A cold front forecasted later this week promises relief, bringing potential thunderstorms and cooler temperatures over the weekend.

As the extreme heat persists, safety remains paramount; heat is the leading weather-related cause of death in the U.S.
