Extreme Heat Alert in Maryland for National Hydration Day
Annapolis, MD – Today marks an Alert Day as Maryland braces for extreme heat, with temperatures soaring to 100 degrees, and heat indices feeling as high as 110. Meteorologist Ava Marie warns that the extreme heat warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., posing serious health risks, especially for vulnerable populations.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and to reschedule outdoor activities to before 11 a.m. or after 9 p.m. Taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments is crucial to avoid heat-related illnesses. It’s also important to check on others—especially those without air conditioning—and ensure pets are cared for, with extra water and relief from the hot pavement.
Looking ahead, similar heat conditions will persist into Tuesday, leading officials to encourage the use of established cooling centers across the state. As temperatures are expected to drop later in the week, a better chance for afternoon thunderstorms is anticipated starting Thursday.
