Gas Prices Rise Amid Israel-Iran Conflict
WASHINGTON (7News) – Following the recent escalation in the Israel-Iran conflict, gas prices have started to rise, with the average price in Washington, D.C., increasing by 7 cents per gallon over the past week. While this current rate is 46 cents lower than last year, it marks a 2.4 cent increase since May, according to GasBuddy. The trend isn’t unique to the capital; nearly all states have experienced a similar uptick in gas prices recently.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, predicts a further rise of 7 to 15 cents at the national level in the upcoming week, with diesel prices potentially increasing by 10 to 20 cents. In the DMV area, Maryland’s average is at $3.19, up 15 cents from last week, while Baltimore reports $3.17, and Hagerstown sees $3.15 per gallon.
While fears of dramatic price spikes circulate online, De Haan reassures consumers that the projections are largely exaggerated. He advises motorists to prepare for a gradual increase in fuel costs as the international situation continues to evolve.
