Hermes Handbags Outshine Gold as Luxury Market Soars
In a striking shift of luxury asset value, Hermes handbags are now worth more than gold, with high-profile owners like the Kardashians, Cardi B, and Victoria Beckham driving a booming market. James Constantinou, owner of Prestige Pawn, a leading luxury pawnbroker, highlights the remarkable increase in value, stating, "Designer handbags are hot property… especially Hermes bags, which now rival the cost of an average UK house due to their rarity and celebrity associations."
According to Posh Pawn, the Kardashian-Jenner family’s Hermes collection is estimated to be worth over £15 million. Cardi B’s investment in a rare Cargo Birkin bag, for which she paid three times its asking price, contributes to a resale value of £5 million in her collection. Victoria Beckham’s iconic bags could yield an impressive £2 million if she ever decides to sell them.
"Hermes bags have always held high value, but prices are now soaring in both retail and secondary markets," remarked Constantinou, a former star of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn. Profits exceeding 50% are common, making these handbags some of the most sought-after assets in luxury goods.
One standout piece, a vintage Hermes Mini Kelly made of 925 Sterling Silver and favored by the Kardashian-Jenner clan, has been valued at £300,000—over £30,000 more than the average house price in the UK. With only 15 in existence, these bags are quickly snapped up by collectors.
"The sector has been exceptionally busy as we’re recognized as experts in finding exclusive Hermès bags," Constantinou adds. A-list celebrities are consistently refreshing their wish lists, as these handbags are not just fashion statements but lucrative investments.
