Maryland Man Pleads Guilty to Second-Degree Murder
Washington, D.C. — Keyon Slaughter, 28, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed on Friday, admitting to the killing of Dana Bailey Jr. in December 2022. His plea, pending court approval, includes a proposed 16-year prison sentence.
The incident occurred on December 5, 2022, when Slaughter entered Bailey’s apartment in Southeast D.C. and shot him once in the chest using a .40 caliber handgun. After the shooting, Slaughter fled to North Carolina. He was arrested in July 2023 and has been in custody since.
Prosecutors revealed that Slaughter was in a relationship with Bailey’s wife at the time of the murder. She has also been indicted and pleaded guilty to obstructing justice. At the time of the shooting, Slaughter was on supervised probation for armed robbery stemming from a 2019 conviction.
In addition to his prison sentence, Slaughter will be subjected to five years of supervised release post-incarceration. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 29, 2025. The case highlights the complexities of domestic relationships and the dire consequences of violence.
