Maryland Sports Wagering Achieves Fifth-Best Month with $7.7 Million Contribution
Annapolis, MD – Maryland’s sports wagering market reached a significant milestone in May 2025, reporting its fifth-best single-month performance. The state garnered $7,746,363 in contributions, marking a notable increase from previous fiscal years.
According to a recent news release, the state has seen a substantial rise in sports wagering contributions, amassing $79,696,891 in the first 11 months of FY2025 (July 2024 through May 2025), compared to $54,582,952 during the same period in FY2024. These proceeds are directed towards the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which benefits public education initiatives.
In total, Maryland sports bettors wagered $504,448,190 in May, with payouts of $438,138,277 in winnings. Sportsbook operators retained 13.1% of the total handle, and contributed 15% of their taxable proceeds to the Blueprint Fund. During May, Maryland hosted 11 mobile sports wagering platforms and 12 retail sportsbook locations.
Detailed statistics reveal that players placed $10,258,570 in retail wagers, and $494,189,620 in mobile bets. This resulted in retail winnings of $8,708,643 and mobile prizes reaching $429,429,635. The hold percentage, defined as handle minus prizes paid, stood at 15.1% for retail and 13.1% for mobile.
Since the launch of the sports wagering program in December 2021, Maryland’s cumulative contributions to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund now total $168,150,051, alongside $4,265,333 contributed to the Problem Gambling Fund from expired prizes.
