CBP Launches Enhanced Passenger Processing Program for Seamless U.S. Entry
In a significant development for international travelers, the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is expanding its Enhanced Passenger Processing (EPP) program, designed to streamline re-entry for U.S. citizens. This innovative technology employs biometric scanning and advanced software to expedite the arrival process, allowing individuals to pass through the international arrivals area without unnecessary delays. Notably, there are no application fees, memberships, or interviews required.
Launching nine months ago at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), EPP has demonstrated its efficacy by reducing passport control wait times by 25%. By simply having their photo taken via a tablet, travelers’ images are quickly matched against stored passport details, making the process incredibly efficient—often taking just seconds. Diane Sabatino, Acting Executive Assistant Commissioner at CBP, hailed the program as a "game-changer" that enhances the experience of U.S. citizens as they return home, emphasizing its touchless, secure, and efficient design.
Following its successful debut in Dallas, EPP is now operational at Orlando International Airport (MCO) and will soon be introduced at several other major airports. These include Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Denver International Airport (DEN), and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). Additionally, Dublin Airport (DUB) in Ireland will provide screening for passengers flying to the U.S. before departure.
With the expansion of EPP, the CBP aims to provide a smoother, faster, and more secure travel experience for U.S. citizens, paving the way for a new standard in international arrivals.
