Baltimore Ravens Release All-Pro Kicker Justin Tucker Amid Allegations
In a surprising move, the Baltimore Ravens have released All-Pro kicker Justin Tucker following allegations of inappropriate behavior involving over a dozen massage therapists. General Manager Eric DeCosta stated that the decision was based on football considerations, acknowledging the difficulty of such choices. "Considering our current roster, we have made the tough decision to release Justin Tucker," DeCosta said.
The NFL is currently investigating allegations reported by the Baltimore Banner, which involve claims from at least 16 massage therapists between 2012 and 2016. NFL Insider Jonathan Jones confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing.
Tucker, who has denied the allegations, expressed his devastation over the claims. "I have always made a conscious effort to be considerate and respectful," he stated, maintaining he acted appropriately in all professional interactions.
Despite a career-low season in 2024, with a 73.3% field goal accuracy, Tucker remains the NFL’s most accurate kicker in history, holding a career percentage of 89.1% and the record for the longest field goal at 66 yards. Following his release, Tucker became the last player from the Ravens’ 2012 Super Bowl-winning team.
DeCosta had previously referred to the allegations as "serious" and "concerning," indicating that the Ravens would await the results of the NFL investigation before making final decisions. As part of their future plans, the Ravens drafted Tyler Loop from the University of Arizona in the sixth round to fill the kicker position.
Head Coach John Harbaugh emphasized that any forthcoming decisions would prioritize football logistics, including salary cap considerations. The situation adds another layer of complexity as the Ravens approach the upcoming season.
