The Mercury trailed 76-68 with just over four minutes left but closed the game with an impressive 18-1 run. Held clinched the lead for Phoenix with a deep three-pointer, making it 77-76 near the end of the game. Following a missed free throw by the Valkyries, Satou Sabally rebounded her own attempt and scored while being fouled, converting the three-point play to put Phoenix ahead 80-77.
Golden State’s Veronica Burton missed a crucial layup, and Sabally was then fouled, extending the lead with two successful free throws. The Valkyries struggled in the closing moments, turning the ball over on two consecutive inbound plays, allowing the Mercury to finish strong with four additional free throws to seal the win.
