Homicide Investigation in Davidsonville: Video Emerges of Suspected Arson

Anne Arundel County police are investigating a shocking homicide linked to the death of 67-year-old Edward Stephen Koza, the owner of Tropic Bay Aquatic Garden Center in Davidsonville. Koza was found deceased in his burned truck on May 24 after being tied up and set on fire. Two 18-year-olds, Jonah Poole and Kylee Dakes, have been arrested and face multiple charges, including first-degree murder, assault, and arson. Both suspects were slated to attend Southern High School’s graduation this week.

Authorities are currently analyzing a social media video that reportedly shows a man resembling Poole igniting the vehicle. Koza’s neighbor expressed their shock, stating, “Nobody deserves to die that way.” During a court appearance, the duo was denied bail.

The investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly attacked Koza at the garden center, stole gas, and returned to incinerate the truck with him inside. Community members are reeling from the brutality of the crime, which they believe exceeds typical robbery motives, especially given Poole’s previous burglary charge involving a local restaurant just days before the murder. Residents reflect on the lost potential of the young suspects, with Dakes reportedly considering a future in radiology.
