Severe Weather Alert for Baltimore Region Following Warm Temperatures
Baltimore, MD – The Baltimore area welcomed a warm day, reaching 82 degrees at BWI Marshall Airport, signaling an abrupt shift from recent chilly weather. However, the temperature spike has set the stage for potentially severe thunderstorms across the region this evening.
Chief Meteorologist Tom Tasselmyer reported that despite currently calm conditions, radar has identified heavy storm cells moving northward from Virginia and West Virginia, raising concerns for damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes. A tornado watch encompassing parts of Maryland is in effect until midnight, following earlier warnings issued for neighboring counties.
As thunderstorms move in, residents should be vigilant, particularly between 8-9 p.m. The National Weather Service has also issued a flood watch due to anticipated heavy rainfall, with parts of Baltimore at risk for flash flooding.
In the wake of these weather warnings, the Annapolis Pride event organizers have postponed their festivities, aiming to reschedule soon. Baltimore Gas and Electric reports about 488 customer outages as storms approach.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated through local news outlets and utilize weather apps for real-time alerts as severe weather unfolds.
