At 7:28 PM, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a tornado warning for parts of Central Maryland, including southeastern Howard County, eastern Montgomery County, and northern Prince George’s County. A severe thunderstorm located near Laurel and Beltsville is advancing northeast at 10 MPH, displaying significant radar rotation that heightens the risk of a tornado touchdown. This warning will remain in effect until 8:00 PM EDT.
Sirens were activated earlier at the University of Maryland in College Park, prompting authorities to urge residents to seek immediate shelter in sturdy buildings and to avoid windows. Other areas at risk include Columbia, Savage, Fulton, Burtonsville, and Jessup, where potential impacts may involve flying debris, roof and window damage, and destruction of mobile homes.
Residents are advised to take these warnings seriously and remain vigilant as this situation develops. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
