Maryland Man Sentenced to Life for Triple Murder, Including Unborn Child

A Maryland man, Torrey Moore, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his pregnant girlfriend, Denise Middleton, their unborn child Ezekiel, and a convenience store clerk, Ayalew Wondimu. This case marks a significant legal precedent in Montgomery County, as Moore becomes the first individual to be convicted of killing a viable fetus.

The chilling incident began in December 2022, when Moore shot Wondimu, a 61-year-old convenience store employee. Authorities later discovered Middleton’s decomposing body in their apartment, where she had been left for almost two months. At the time of the murder, Middleton was eight-and-a-half months pregnant.

Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy highlighted Moore’s history of domestic violence and noted that he used the same firearm for all three murders. Evidence presented during the trial included video footage of Moore assaulting Middleton. Following the murders, Moore attempted to evade law enforcement by traveling to North Carolina and California, reportedly searching online for ways to conceal the crimes.

In addition to his life sentences for murder, Moore received an 80-year concurrent sentence for various other charges. Family members expressed their grief and frustration, particularly Dennis Middleton, who sought answers from Moore during the sentencing.
