Louisiana State Police arrested Connie Weeden, a 59-year-old woman from Slidell, for allegedly aiding in the escape of ten inmates from Orleans Parish Jail. Weeden is the third woman arrested in connection with this jailbreak, which occurred on May 16. She is charged with being an accessory after the fact for reportedly “assisting the fugitives.” Following her arrest, Weeden was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center, though it remains unclear if she has secured legal representation.
To date, five of the escapees have been captured, while another five are still unaccounted for. Earlier arrests include Cortnie Harris and Corvanntay Baptiste, who were charged with similar offenses, and a maintenance worker named Sterling Williams, who allegedly helped orchestrate the escape by disabling a cell’s water supply, allowing inmates to remove a toilet and access an escape route.
Investigators discovered that Weeden had been in phone contact with one of the missing fugitives, Jermaine Donald, both before and after the breakout. She allegedly sent cash to Donald using a mobile payment app following the escape.
If convicted, Weeden and the other accomplices could face up to five years in prison. The police confirmed that local, state, and federal agencies are actively pursuing leads to locate the remaining fugitives. They emphasized that anyone who assists or conceals these escapees will face legal consequences. Authorities are requesting that anyone with information on the fugitives’ whereabouts reach out to the FBI, Crimestoppers, or the Louisiana State Police, with rewards totaling $20,000 available for tips leading to arrests.
