Firefighters Contain Blaze in Lexington Park Home
Lexington Park, MD – Early Monday morning, May 19, 2025, emergency responders swiftly extinguished a house fire on North Essex Drive. At approximately 1:36 a.m., the homeowner alerted 911, reporting smoke filling the residence while evacuations were underway.
Firefighting crews from Bay District, NAS Patuxent River, Hollywood, and Second District arrived to find the single-story home seemingly unaffected from the exterior. Fortunately, the homeowner was outside with his three dogs. Upon a thorough inspection, firefighters identified flames in a bedroom and successfully extinguished the fire within 15 minutes. Further searches found no additional residents or pets, but crews discovered fire within the walls during extension checks.
The homeowner was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown. Two dogs were rescued and are now under the care of St. Mary’s County Animal Control, while one dog remains missing, having been last seen fleeing the area.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office was notified but did not respond to investigate the cause of the fire. Further updates on the situation are expected as the investigation continues.
