Maryland to Face Syracuse in 2024 Gotham Classic

COLLEGE PARK, MD – The University of Maryland has announced its final non-conference matchup for the 2024-25 basketball season, set to take place against Syracuse on Saturday, December 21, at the Barclays Center as part of the 2024 Gotham Classic. Tickets will go on sale to the public starting Tuesday, July 30, at 12 PM on Ticketmaster.com, with further details on game time and television coverage to be revealed later.

This anticipated clash marks the 10th meeting between the two historic programs, with Maryland leading the series 5-4. Their last encounter on November 27, 2017, ended in a tight 72-70 victory for Syracuse. Notably, three of the last four games since 2004 have been decided by a single possession, showcasing the competitive nature of this rivalry.

Maryland’s basketball history with Syracuse dates back to their first contest in 1972 at Madison Square Garden during Maryland’s NIT Championship run. The two schools had a long hiatus from 1981 to 2004, but their rivalry was reignited when Syracuse edged out the Terps in the 2004 NCAA Tournament.

In preparation for the upcoming season, season tickets are now available starting at $199, with discounts offered for Maryland Young Alumni and current students’ parents. The Terps will field a strong roster led by rising stars Julian Reese and DeShawn Harris-Smith, complemented by experienced fifth-year senior Jordan Geronimo. Maryland has made significant strides in recruiting, securing notable transfers and top high school talent, including five-star McDonald’s All-American Derik Queen.

The Terps will kick off their non-conference schedule on November 4 against Manhattan at the XFINITY Center, with game times and Big Ten dates to be announced in due course. All matchups will be broadcasted on the Maryland Sports Radio Network, featuring the team’s legendary commentator Johnny Holliday.
