Public Comment Invited for Maryland State Forests’ 2026 Work Plans
May 12, 2025
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is requesting public input on the proposed annual work plans for fiscal year 2026 for four state forests: Chesapeake/Pocomoke, Green Ridge, Potomac-Garrett, and Savage River. The comment period is open from May 6 to June 6, 2025.
These annual work plans are crucial for identifying priorities related to forest management, addressing aspects like composition, growth, health, and the maintenance of forest infrastructure. The public’s feedback is the last step in a comprehensive review process that begins with assessments from natural resource professionals specializing in areas such as wildlife, recreation, and water quality. This is followed by a review from a local citizens advisory committee.
Once the public comment period concludes, forest managers will analyze the feedback and finalize the plans. The proposed plans can be accessed on the Maryland Forest Service website, where residents are encouraged to submit their comments through an online form. This initiative emphasizes the DNR’s commitment to collaborative forest management and community involvement.
