Maryland’s Emil Riegger Competes in NCAA Golf Regionals
COLLEGE PARK, MD – Sophomore Emil Riegger of the Maryland men’s golf team is set to make his mark at the NCAA Regionals this week. The Amherst Regional, hosted by Liberty, takes place from May 11-14 at the Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst, Virginia, with the first round commencing Sunday afternoon due to expected inclement weather.
This regional will consist of six 54-hole tournaments, featuring 13 teams and 10 individuals at each of three events, while the remaining three will include 14 teams and five individuals each. The top five teams and the lowest individual not part of those teams will secure a spot in the finals, taking place May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Riegger, a transfer from Drake, has had an impressive season, averaging a score of 70.6. With four top-10 and seven top-20 finishes across eight events, his recent performance at the Big Ten Championships saw him tie for fifth place, earning him a spot on the All-Big Ten Championship Team. Notably, Riegger is the first Terrapin to qualify for NCAA Regionals since 2018.
