Loyola Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Stony Brook in NCAA Tournament Opener
Boston – The Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse team concluded its season with an 11-8 loss to Stony Brook University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Chase Boyle and Georgia Latch shone for the Greyhounds, each scoring three goals and contributing to all four of the team’s assists. Notably, Latch broke the Loyola single-season assists record and tied the Patriot League record with her two assists in the match.
The game featured a closely contested first half, with the teams trading goals and Stony Brook leading 7-5 at halftime. Despite Loyola’s dominance in draw controls, winning 7-6 in the first half and 14-8 overall, the Greyhounds struggled to maintain momentum. They tied the game at 7-7 in the third quarter but soon fell behind as Stony Brook mounted a decisive 4-0 run.
Loyola’s goalkeeper, Lauren Spence, was instrumental in keeping the game within reach with 10 saves. Gabby Stapleton added two goals for the Greyhounds, who ended their season with a commendable 13-7 record and made their 26th NCAA Tournament appearance under Head Coach Jen Adams.
