Press Release: Maryland Terps Set to Host Stony Brook in Home Opener
COLLEGE PARK, MD – August 18, 2024 – The Maryland Terrapins, fresh off a 2-0 win against Lehigh, are gearing up to host Stony Brook in their first home game of the season on Sunday at Ludwig Field, slated for 1:00 p.m. The matchup marks the first encounter since the 2012 NCAA Tournament, where Maryland secured a 2-0 victory.
In their season opener, the Terps showcased impressive performances from several newcomers. Kennedy Bell scored her first collegiate goal, while Delaney DeMartino, a transfer from Loyola (MD), netted another, marking her initial goal with the Terps. Ellie Egeland, in her debut, provided the assist for DeMartino and is one of seven players making their first appearances for Maryland.
The Terps hold a perfect 3-0 record against the Seawolves in historical encounters, the last victory coming in 2012 during the NCAA Tournament. Maryland outshot Stony Brook 25 to 5 in that matchup and dominated corner kicks 9 to 1.
As Maryland embarks on its home schedule, it brings a solid track record in season openers, extending their unbeaten streak to eight games with an impressive 5-0-3 record. Furthermore, they have not lost a home-opener since 2017, boasting a 4-0-3 record in their last seven home openers.
Cost-effective streaming through B1G+ will provide fans access to the game. The Seawolves, who recently defeated Colgate 2-1, pose a challenge led by returning scorer Reilly Rich, while the standout goalkeeper Nicolette Pasquarella aims for a strong performance.
Fans can anticipate an exciting clash as both teams look to build momentum early in the season.
