Identity of Second Deported Maryland Migrant Uncovered as Trump Administration Fights Against His Return to the U.S.

Federal Court Orders Return of Deported Migrant in Maryland Case

Maryland – The identity of a second migrant recently deported by the Trump administration has emerged, reigniting discussions about immigration policies. Daniel Lozano-Camargo, a 20-year-old Venezuelan man previously known only as "Cristian," was deported to El Salvador in March after being arrested for cocaine possession in January. His identity was revealed as a U.S. District Judge ruled that the administration had violated a settlement agreement regarding the handling of young asylum seekers.

Lozano-Camargo was among migrants who entered the U.S. illegally as unaccompanied minors and subsequently filed for asylum. In her April ruling, Judge Stephanie Gallagher emphasized that his deportation breached a contract stipulating that his asylum claim should be fully heard before any removal. She specifically instructed the administration to request Lozano-Camargo’s return, asserting that he should await the adjudication of his asylum claim on U.S. soil.

Despite this order, U.S. officials have resisted reuniting Lozano-Camargo with the U.S. court system, citing his past drug offense under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act as a basis for his deportation. This designation claims that individuals like Lozano-Camargo, identified as "alien enemies," forfeit their asylum rights and therefore their membership in a class previously protected by the settlement agreement.

Furthermore, the court papers suggest that the government has drawn a connection between Lozano-Camargo and a violent gang, the Tren de Aragua, declared a "Foreign Terrorist Organization" in March. However, no direct evidence substantiating this has been publicly disclosed.

As the legal battle continues, both Lozano-Camargo’s fate and the administration’s compliance with judicial directives remain uncertain. The tensions over asylum policies highlight broader issues within the immigration debate in the United States.
