University of Maryland Hires Libby Ellis as Associate Athletic Director for Sports Administration
In June 2021, Damon Evans, Athletic Director at the University of Maryland, announced the appointment of Libby Ellis as the new Associate Athletic Director for Sports Administration. Ellis brings extensive experience to her role, overseeing multiple sports including Field Hockey, Women’s Golf, Gymnastics, Women’s Lacrosse, Softball, Tennis, and Volleyball.
In addition to supervising these programs, Ellis is responsible for managing all Big Ten and NCAA Championship events, spearheading Teamworks communication initiatives, and organizing camps and clinics. She also leads the Sports Administrators Team, showcasing her versatile leadership skills within the athletic department.
Previously, Ellis spent eight years as the Director of Basketball Operations under Head Coach Brenda Frese with the Maryland women’s basketball program. She managed team travel, budgeting, scheduling, and logistics, while also acting as a key liaison within multiple departments. Her time with the program coincided with seven conference regular-season championships, seven tournament titles, and two appearances in the Final Four.
Ellis’s contributions extend beyond basketball; she has played a critical role in hosting NCAA Championships for both Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse and Field Hockey. Furthermore, she co-chaired the VoTERP committee, collaborating with local government to use the XFINITY Center as a polling site during the 2020 Presidential General Election, serving over 16,000 voters.
A native of Silver Spring, Maryland, Ellis holds a degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland and received her MBA from the University of Maryland Global Campus in 2018. Her extensive background and commitment to student-athlete welfare position her as an invaluable asset to the University of Maryland Athletic Department.
