Alison “Ali” Semanchik, a Shenandoah Valley graduate, has been named Teacher of the Year at Buckingham Elementary School in Berlin, Maryland. With eight years of teaching experience, Semanchik emphasizes play-based learning methods and creating engaging learning experiences. She holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and special education and is working towards a master’s degree from Salisbury University. Semanchik is one of fourteen teachers selected as Teacher of the Year at their respective Worcester County Public Schools. The district will announce the overall Teacher of the Year at a ceremony on Tuesday night.
Semanchik’s dedication to fostering relationships and ensuring all children have access to learning has earned her this recognition. Her background as a student leader and standout athlete at Shenandoah Valley has prepared her for success in her teaching career. As she receives this honor at Buckingham Elementary School, Semanchik may also be considered for Teacher of the Year for the entire county.
