Inaugural Senior Prom Aims to Make Up for Missed High School Memories

The first annual Senior Prom at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was a night to remember, as seniors came together to celebrate the milestone event. With a red carpet entrance, colorful decorations, and a photo booth, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and nostalgia. Senior Class President, Timothy McLendon, organized the event with the goal of giving the class of 2021 a chance to experience the prom they missed out on due to the pandemic.

McLendon emphasized the importance of prom in American culture, noting that it is a pivotal moment in people’s lives. The event featured a “Casino Night” theme, complete with games like poker, roulette, and blackjack, where students could play for prizes provided by the Carolina Alumni Association. Free food and gambling tokens were also provided to all attendees, making it a night to remember.

Senior Class Vice President, Imani Chabikuli, worked alongside McLendon to plan the event, which included a separate pre-prom event called “Prelude to Prom” at The Carolina Club. Despite the challenges of planning and renting out the Dean Dome for the event, the organizers were proud of the successful night they had put together.

Overall, Senior Prom was a huge success, allowing seniors to come together and create new memories in place of the prom they missed out on. With the support of the Carolina Alumni Association and the hard work of the organizers, the event was a night of fun, nostalgia, and celebration for the class of 2021.
