The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is encouraging anglers to participate in blue catfish fishing tournaments to help control the population of these nonnative predators in waterways. These tournaments offer anglers the chance to compete for prizes and bragging rights while making a positive impact on the ecosystem. Some upcoming tournaments include the Mid-Shore Fishing Club Invasive Species Tournament, the Environmental Justice Journalism Initiative Reel Rewards Program, and the Benedict Volunteer Fire Department Annual Catfish Tournament.
Other events like the Back River Restoration Committee Millers Island Land Fishing Invitational and the Madness on the Marshyhope also provide opportunities for anglers to participate in fishing competitions while supporting local causes. Additionally, the Fish For A Cure tournament raises funds for cancer care initiatives. Anglers can also participate in the Maryland Rod and Reef Slam, which challenges them to catch different fish species over oyster reefs.
Organizers of blue catfish fishing tournaments in Maryland in 2025 are encouraged to reach out to have their event listed in future publications.
