Tragic plane crash in New York results in loss of all 6 passengers

A private plane crashed in New York’s Columbia County with six people on board, including recent MIT and Swarthmore graduates and their families. The crash occurred while the plane was attempting a second landing at Columbia County Airport. All six individuals were killed in the crash. The aircraft, a Mitsubishi MU-2B with an experienced pilot, crashed at a high rate of descent into the ground. The pilot had abandoned a landing attempt and was preparing for a second try when the plane hit the ground at a high speed. The pilot did not issue a distress call before impact. The plane was flying out of Westchester County Airport and was about 10 miles south of its destination when it crashed. The conditions at the time included overcast skies and snow on the ground. The plane was registered to Dynamic Spine Solutions LLC, based in Massachusetts. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately confirm the identities of those on board. The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting an investigation into the crash and has reviewed video footage of the incident.
