Spanish 3D technology provider Sicnova has launched the Center for Special Applications and Process Certification for the Military and Defense Sectors (CEDAEC), the first of its kind in Spain. The center, inaugurated on April 4th, is dedicated to advanced manufacturing and certifying components for the defense sector. The event was attended by María Amparo Valcarce García, Secretary of State for Defense, who praised the collaboration between Sicnova and the Ministry of Defense. The new facility, managed by Sicnova’s subsidiary Novaindef, aims to streamline production, optimize supply chains, and improve operational efficiency for the Armed Forces.
CEDAEC is equipped with advanced technologies such as 3D printing, machining centers, reverse engineering systems, and post-processing techniques. One of its key assets is a high-tech tomograph for inspecting and certifying military components. The collaboration between Sicnova Solutions and the Ministry of Defense seeks to enhance defense capabilities through cutting-edge design and additive manufacturing technologies.
In a similar vein, other countries are also investing in additive manufacturing for defense purposes. South Korea’s Republic of Korea Army has deployed Meltio’s wire-laser technology for on-demand component manufacturing, while the U.S. has launched various initiatives to improve additive manufacturing equivalency and interoperability between the DoD and the UK MoD.
The opening of CEDAEC represents a significant step towards revolutionizing defense manufacturing in Spain and underscores the importance of advanced technologies in addressing strategic challenges in complex environments. Sicnova’s CEO, Ángel Llavero, emphasized the benefits of collaboration and the potential of additive manufacturing to enhance defense capabilities.
