Georgia Tech has announced the hiring of Karen Blair as the new head coach of the women’s basketball team, taking over from retiring coach Nell Fortner. Blair brings seven seasons of experience from the University of Maryland, where she served as associate head coach and helped lead the Terrapins to three Big Ten championships. Georgia Tech’s athletic director, J Batt, praised Blair’s successful track record both on the court and in recruiting, citing Maryland’s consistent performance in the NCAA Tournament during her tenure.
In a statement, Blair expressed her excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Georgia Tech program, emphasizing the school’s tradition of basketball success. Before Maryland, Blair held coaching positions at various universities, including North Texas, Texas-Arlington, Colgate, and SMU, where she played as a student. During her time at SMU, the team achieved two Conference USA regular-season championships and made two NCAA Tournament appearances.
Georgia Tech fans and supporters are eager to see Blair continue the momentum and success of the program under Fortner’s leadership, with hopes of reaching even greater heights in the coming seasons.
