Men’s Lacrosse Makes History with Victory over No. 2 Maryland

The Rutgers men’s lacrosse team achieved a historic victory over No. 2 Maryland, winning 8-6 in front of nearly 3,000 fans. The Scarlet Knights claimed their highest ranked win in program history with just their second lifetime win over Maryland and their first win since 1980, snapping a 19-game winning streak for the Terps. Led by strong defensive play and a standout performance from Cardin Stoller, Rutgers held Maryland to a season-low six goals. Stoller made 14 saves, scored a goal, and was a key factor in securing the victory. Colin Zeller led Rutgers with a career-high three goals, while Colin Kelly recorded his 100th point of his collegiate career. The win improved Rutgers’ record to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten Conference play, marking the program’s first 2-1 start to league play since 2022. Head coach Brian Brecht commended the team’s growth and effort in securing the big win. Rutgers will look to continue their success as they host No. 13 Michigan next weekend in a nationally televised game on the Big Ten Network.
