Paris’ late home run propels baseball to first road victory at Maryland in two decades

UMBC Baseball defeats Maryland 5-2 with a tie-breaking two-run home run by Derek Paris in the eighth inning. It was their first win at Maryland in nearly 20 years. The Retrievers have now won two games in a row against big Ten teams. Paris hit a late tie-breaking homer for the second time in four days. Leewood Molessa and Kyle Eddington also contributed with RBI singles. Jesiah Carpenter had two hits, two runs, and two stolen bases. Six UMBC pitchers combined to shut down the Terps, who only had two hits in the game. Nick Remy earned the win by retiring eight of the nine batters he faced without allowing a hit. The Retrievers took the lead in the third, tied it up in the sixth, and secured the win in the eighth inning. They now prepare to host Binghamton in a key America East series. The game will be played on Friday at 6 p.m. This victory adds to UMBC’s successful season and highlights their strong pitching and hitting abilities.
