Iran’s supreme leader warns of retaliation in response to Trump’s bombing threat

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that the U.S. would face a strong response if it carries out President Donald Trump’s threat to bomb Tehran unless a new nuclear deal is reached. Trump had sent a letter to Iran’s leadership offering talks and a two-month deadline for a decision, but Khamenei stated that any aggression from the U.S. or Israel would result in a forceful retaliation.

Recent unrest in Iran, such as protests over a woman’s death in custody and fuel price rises in 2019, have been blamed on Western interference by Iranian authorities. While Iran responded to the U.S. letter by rejecting direct negotiations but leaving room for indirect talks, the Foreign Ministry condemned the bombing threat as a violation of international peace and security.

Trump had previously withdrawn the U.S. from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, leading to the reimposition of sanctions and Iran surpassing the deal’s limits on uranium enrichment. Western powers accuse Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons, but Tehran maintains that its program is solely for civilian energy purposes.

As tensions continue to escalate, the possibility of military action looms over the negotiations between the U.S. and Iran regarding a new nuclear deal. The situation remains precarious, with both sides taking firm stances on their positions.
