Dr. Gerhardt Konig, a 46-year-old Maui anesthesiologist, was accused of trying to kill his wife while hiking in Hawaii. According to court documents, Dr. Konig attacked his wife on the Pali Puka Trail in Honolulu, hitting her on the head with a rock and attempting to inject her with syringes. The attack only stopped when fellow hikers intervened and the wife managed to get away from him. Dr. Konig was caught several hours later after fleeing the scene. His bail was set at $5 million and a preliminary hearing for the attempted murder charge was scheduled for Monday. Dr. Konig’s wife reported the attack to the police, stating that he had pushed her into bushes, hit her on the head, and tried to inject her with syringes. The incident occurred when Dr. Konig asked his wife to take a selfie with him on the trail, but she felt uncomfortable and walked away, leading to the violent outburst. Dr. Konig’s lawyer was not immediately available for comment.
