Gene Hackman’s wife, Betsy Arakawa, lived longer than originally thought, according to medical clinic records

Betsy Arakawa, wife of actor Gene Hackman, was determined to be alive a day after her estimated time of death according to cellphone records. The couple’s bodies were found at their Santa Fe home, with Arakawa estimated to have died on February 11 and Hackman on February 18. Arakawa’s cause of death was hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, while Hackman’s was cardiovascular disease with Alzheimer’s as a contributing factor.

Phone records show Arakawa made calls to a private medical clinic on February 12 before being found deceased. Cloudberry, the clinic, confirmed she had made an appointment regarding respiratory issues but had to cancel due to feeling unwell. The clinic’s leader, Dr. Josiah Child, mentioned that Arakawa had initially contacted them for a heart scan for Hackman.

A judge has temporarily blocked the release of images of the couple’s bodies and their home, along with any dead animals found on the property. The request came from a personal representative of the couple’s estates, with another hearing scheduled for March 31.

The investigation into the couple’s deaths is ongoing, with authorities considering the newly obtained cellphone records. The Office of the Medical Investigator and Cloudberry declined to comment on the case. The couple’s deaths were a shock, with their bodies not discovered until several days after their passing.
