Maryland Sports Commission executive director Terry Hasseltine recently spoke with PressBox about the progress of the Maryland 5 Star equestrian event and the upcoming return of the Maryland Cycling Classic in 2025. The Maryland 5 Star event at Fair Hill International saw increased attendance and improved fan experience, with plans for further growth in the future. The 2024 Maryland Cycling Classic was canceled but is set to return in 2025 with both men’s and women’s races. The decision to include a women’s race was made to promote gender equity in sports. International soccer matches at various Maryland stadiums this summer were successful, although facing challenges due to conflicting international competitions. Basketball games featuring top teams as part of the Hall of Fame Series were held at the CFG Bank Arena in November, with plans for the series to continue in the future. The CIAA Men’s & Women’s Basketball Tournament is scheduled to take place at CFG Bank Arena, and efforts are being made to ensure it continues to grow and improve each year. Overall, Maryland aims to continue hosting successful sporting events that benefit both the community and the state.
