New Surgical Technology Degree Program Launched by Clark College

Clark College in Vancouver, WA is launching a new Associate of Applied Technology degree program for surgical technology. The two-year program will provide students with the necessary skills to assist surgeons and nurses in operating rooms. Foundational classes for the program will begin in the spring term on April 7, with prerequisite courses including microbiology and anatomy and physiology required for admission.

Dr. Karin Edwards, President of Clark College, stated that graduates from this program will help meet a critical workforce need by ensuring hospitals have well-trained surgical technologists. This program is the first of its kind in Southwest Washington, with the closest similar programs being offered at community colleges in the Puget Sound region and Mount Hood Community College in Gresham.

The full program is set to launch in the fall, with the first batch of students expected to graduate in the spring of 2027. College officials are dedicated to preparing a trained workforce to meet the current and future needs of the community.

Those interested in pursuing a career in surgical technology can now do so through Clark College’s new program, which aims to train students to become proficient in assisting medical professionals in operating rooms. With the increasing demand for healthcare professionals, this program will help address the shortage of skilled surgical technologists in the region.
