CCIA Stands Against Proposed Maryland B2B Service Tax, Expresses Concern for Small Businesses and Regional Competitiveness

The Computer & Communications Industry Association is speaking out against Maryland’s proposed B2B service tax, warning that the tax would disproportionately impact small businesses and create a competitive disadvantage in the region. The tax, if implemented, could force businesses to raise prices, cut staff, or reduce investments in growth. Maryland would also risk becoming an outlier among its neighbors, as Virginia and Delaware do not have similar taxes, potentially driving businesses to move operations across state lines. The CCIA is urging Maryland lawmakers to reject HB 1554 and SB 1054 in favor of policies that support economic growth and stability. The association represents a broad cross-section of technology firms and has been advocating for open markets and networks for over 50 years. CCIA members employ over 1.6 million workers and invest billions in research and development, contributing greatly to the global economy.
