The search for missing University of Pittsburgh student Sudiksha Konanki in the Dominican Republic entered its fourth day on Monday. The 20-year-old junior was last seen entering the beach at the RIU hotel where she was staying in Punta Cana during her spring break trip with five friends. Police initiated an exhaustive search by sea, air, and land using drones, helicopters, divers, boats, and canine units. Konanki was reported missing on Friday morning after her friends returned to the hotel without her. The public prosecutor’s office was interviewing her friends and a young man who was at the beach around the time of her disappearance. The hotel and authorities are fully committed to assisting in the search, with support from various agencies and her family traveling to Punta Cana from Virginia. Security camera footage and cellphone data are being analyzed to determine what happened to Konanki. The FBI is standing by to assist if needed. Konanki’s friends stayed back in the Dominican Republic to help in the search. The investigation is considering all possibilities from accidental to foul play, and the University of Pittsburgh and the Indian Embassy are offering support in the investigation. Authorities are diligently working to find and bring Sudiksha Konanki back safely.
