Maryland Department of Natural Resources Secretary Josh Kurtz is gearing up for the start of trout season, which kicks off on March 29. In preparation, the department is hosting its second annual Youth-Only Trout Fishing Day on March 22, allowing young anglers ages 16 and under to catch up to two fish at designated areas before the official season begins. Trout fishing is not only a fun pastime but also a great way to introduce youth to the beauty of Maryland’s natural landscapes. Kurtz is also encouraging anglers to help battle an environmental threat by catching blue catfish, which are consuming important commercial fish species in the Bay. Additionally, anglers can strive to become FishMaryland Master Anglers by catching 10 trophy-sized fish of different species. Kurtz emphasizes the importance of sustainable fisheries management and recognizes the vital role that anglers play in promoting clean water and healthy fish populations. As the Worm Moon signals the arrival of spring and warmer weather, anglers in Maryland are gearing up for an exciting season of fishing ahead.
