Woman kidnapped as toddler found by Connecticut police after 25 years

Connecticut police have found Andrea Michelle Reyes, who was kidnapped 25 years ago from New Haven as a toddler, in Mexico. She was taken from her mother, Rosa Tenorio, in October 1999 when she was almost 2 years old. A felony arrest warrant was issued for Rosa, who fled with Andrea to Mexico. Andrea’s father had no contact with her despite multiple attempts to find her in Mexico. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children released a photo of Andrea aged 22 to aid in the search, describing her as having unique features. The case went cold until 2023 when Detective Kealyn Nivakoff reinvestigated. Using a combination of methods, he located Andrea in Puebla, Mexico. After confirming the relationship with her father through DNA testing, Andrea, 27, and her father reconnected after almost 25 years. The father’s identity has not been released for privacy reasons. Police continue to seek Rosa, who is suspected to still be in Mexico. New Haven Police Department Chief Karl Jacobson praised the dedication of officers and detectives in resolving cold cases. He emphasized that no case is ever truly closed until resolved. This case is an example of the commitment to finding answers and providing closure for families impacted by cold cases. Andrea’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of relentless investigation in finding missing persons and reuniting families.
