Legal group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) sent a letter on Black’s behalf, accusing the board of unconstitutional retaliation against him for exercising his free speech rights. They are pressuring the board to drop the investigation. Black believes the policy makes schools less safe and infringes on parental and constitutional rights. The policy is up for review in May, and with more Republicans elected to the board, there is a renewed push to reexamine it amid similar scrutiny at the state and federal levels. President Trump has also signed executive orders related to transgender rights in schools.
