Rudy Giuliani has satisfied a judgment against him after defaming two former Georgia election workers by falsely accusing them of election fraud following the 2020 presidential contest. The settlement agreement was reached in January after a jury initially awarded the former election workers $148 million in damages, reduced to $146 million by a judge. The judgment was listed at $146 million plus interest and attorneys fees in a court filing on Monday.
A federal judge had found that Giuliani failed to comply with orders surrounding the judgment, prompting a contempt ruling in January for failing to turn over information about his assets. Giuliani baselessly accused Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Wandrea “Shaye” Moss of fraud, resulting in death threats and online harassment by Trump supporters. Freeman and Moss described the past four years as a “living nightmare” and expressed relief at finally clearing their names and reputations. Freeman said she felt unsafe everywhere, while Moss second-guessed everything she did due to the lies spread about them. The settlement brought an end to the legal battle that had caused immense distress to the two women. Giuliani did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the judgment satisfaction.
