Maryland’s Car Rally Task Force recently arrested five individuals in Baltimore City, and Baltimore and Prince George’s Counties in connection with illegal exhibition driving events. Between February 22 and February 23, the task force dismantled seven events where these illegal activities were taking place. The individuals arrested were charged with various offenses, including assault on a trooper, unlawfully taking a vehicle, DUI, and multiple traffic violations. The crackdown on these illegal car meets comes after the implementation of House Bill 601 in June 2024, which made exhibition driving and street races illegal in Maryland. Those convicted of exhibition driving could face up to 60 days in jail and a fine of $1,000, with a maximum one-year prison sentence if harm is caused to another person. The Maryland Car Rally Task Force has been actively enforcing the law, resulting in the arrest of individuals involved in illegal street races. The task force emphasizes the dangers posed by these events to participants, spectators, and the community at large, as well as their connection to recovered stolen vehicles, illegal firearms, and outstanding warrants.
